HOUSE

by Chris Doran
Directed by Peter Ferrow

Performed at the Kulturzentrum Brotfabrik
From 19 – 29 May, 2016

HOUSE is a one-act comedy written by Lancashire-born playwright Chris Doran, who won the 2012 Kenneth Branagh drama award for new writing with this play. Chris’s passion for theatre stems from his strong belief in its immediacy and purity of expression. His plays explore the behaviour of simple characters in extreme situations, and the implications of taking our fate into our own hands. “We only get one life, and there’s a natural curiosity, a desire even, to live as many different versions of life as we can in our allotted time.”

In HOUSE, which has been described as a perfect farce, we experience an unlikely series of twists and turns as the plot unfolds. Matt has had a very bad day. When he loses his keys after a night of heavy drinking, he finds breaking into his house to be the least of his problems. Who has rearranged the furniture? Why isn’t there any ham? And why won’t the woman wearing his dressing gown let him use his bathroom?

ONCE BITTEN

Written and directed by Fergus Moloney

Performed at the Kulturzentrum Brotfabrik
From 19 – 29 May, 2016

Once Bitten is a short one-act black comedy set in a remote part of the Australian outback featuring two young women – and a spider. Shortly after they get kicked off their bus, tragedy strikes these two women, who are left to contemplate life’s biggest questions: What’s the meaning of life? Does God exist? What is happiness? Is a joke still a joke if it’s not funny? Full of wit and banter, the play treats the ultimate themes with cheerful irreverence.

Born and raised in Waterford on the south-east coast of Ireland, Fergus Moloney first became involved in amateur drama while attending Dublin City University. His first acting role was Cliff in John Osborne’s Look Back in Anger and he has been hooked ever since. He can’t remember where exactly he got the idea for the play from, but is reluctantly willing to admit that quite a few of the conversations in the play were inspired by real life.
